Smoke control & life safety systems.

Stairwell pressurisation and relief, zone pressurisation and smoke exhaust — designed with the fire detection and electrical systems they depend on.

Smoke control systems keep escape routes usable and give firefighters time. They only work if the mechanical design, fire detection, power supplies and controls all act together in fire mode — which is exactly where separate consultants tend to leave gaps.

Aurum designs smoke control and the systems around it as one package: pressurisation fans and relief paths, smoke exhaust, fire-rated power supplies, detection and occupant warning, and the cause-and-effect that ties them together.

Why Aurum

Mechanical + electrical + fire

The systems that must work together in a fire, designed by one team.

Standards-based

Smoke control to AS 1668.1, detection and warning to AS 1670.1 and AS 1670.4.

Clear cause-and-effect

Fire-mode sequences documented so installers and commissioning agents get it right.

Frequently asked questions

What is stairwell pressurisation?

Stairwell pressurisation uses fans to keep fire-isolated stairs at a higher air pressure than the rest of the building, so smoke stays out of the escape route. Relief paths stop the pressure becoming so high that doors can’t be opened.

What is zone pressurisation?

Zone pressurisation exhausts the fire floor while pressurising the floors around it, containing smoke to the floor where the fire started.

Which standards apply to smoke control in Australia?

Smoke control is generally designed to AS 1668.1 and the National Construction Code, together with fire detection and occupant warning to AS 1670.1, and any fire engineering performance solution for the project.
