HV substations & Western Power connections.

Authority and private substations, transformer and main switchboard design, and the Western Power process that sits behind every new connection.

The incoming supply is often the most expensive and program-critical part of a building’s electrical services. Getting the maximum demand right, choosing the right substation arrangement and starting the Western Power process early can save months and significant headworks cost.

Aurum designs authority and private HV substations, transformer installations and main switchboards for apartments, campuses, hospitals and industrial sites — including relocating existing substations on live sites and integrating backup and embedded generation.

Why Aurum

Demand done properly

On ECU City Campus, Aurum’s demand review reduced installed transformer capacity from 12 MVA to 8 MVA.

Live-site experience

Substation relocations planned around operating estates and residents.

Early engagement

Authority strategy set at concept stage, when it saves the most.

Frequently asked questions

When should I engage an electrical engineer for a Western Power connection?

As early as possible — ideally at concept or DA stage. The maximum demand and substation location affect the site layout, the headworks cost and the program, and authority lead times can be long.

Do you design private HV networks as well as authority substations?

Yes. Aurum designs both authority (Western Power) substations and privately owned HV infrastructure, including transformers, main switchboards and HV reticulation.

Can an existing substation be relocated on an operating site?

Yes. It needs careful staging, outage planning and coordination with the network operator. Aurum has planned substation relocations around live estates and occupied buildings.
